Red Ribbon Week October 18-22
Red Ribbon Week begins Monday, October 18 at Red Cliffs Elementary. We would like to thank Celeste Robinson and Jessica Woodland and their committee for their help in planning this event. There are some fun things planned that will help the students learn the importance of staying healthy by making the choice to stay Drug Free. The overall theme for the week is "Life is what you make it, make it Drug Free."
Each day there is a theme for which the students can dress up:
Monday--"Don't let drugs turn you inside out"
(Wear clothes inside out)
(Wear clothes inside out)
Tuesday--"Tie down drugs" (Wear a fun/crazy tie)
Wednesday--"Sock it to drugs"
(Wear fun and craxy socks--good if they show)

Thursday--"Put a Cap on Drugs" (Wear a hat)
Friday--"Wear red day"
(Wear as much red as possible including RCE shirt)

Those who dress up will have a chance to win a prize in their class with a class drawing.
This year there is also a service opportunity that will occur throughout the entire week. We want to "Put drugs out in the cold." We will be collecting coats to be used to benefit those in the community. There will be bins located throughout the school for the students to put the coats in. All sizes are needed.
The week will conclude with an assembly on Friday.
We are sure to see lots of smiles this week because it's going to be a lot of fun.
Remember: "Life is what you make it, make it Drug Free!"

Evacuation Drill held September 29, 2010
Students left the school building at 1:15 on September 29 to practice an evacuation to a secondary location (LDS church house at 222 South 100 East in Nephi). This was a good way to train faculty, students, and parents in the event we do have an actual emergency. The safety of our students is a high priority and we want them to feel safe and secure in the case that there is a real emergency and it becomes necessary to relocate. Thank you for your cooperation as we completed this drill. We know it took you away from normal routines, but educating you as parents about what will happen in an emergency is just as important as educating the children.

One Million Minutes and Three Thousand Books
That is our goal for our Reading Inspirations Program this year. As a team (school) we are working to collectively read 1,000,000 minutes. As we read we will earn books that will be sent to Africa. If we read the 1,000,000 minutes, 3,000 books will be earned. If we read more, more books will be earned and sent to Africa. We would like to thank World Wide Book Drive for partnering with us and donating the books to send. We want to instill in the children a love for reading. Each student received a book of their very own from Worldwide Book Drive as part of our Reading Inspirations kickoff. We hope parents will support their children as they work to achieve this goal of 1,000,000 minutes and 3,000 books. You are also a part of our team and working together we will succeed.

Red Cliffs Elementary Safety Committee
This past year safety committee has been working on securing an evacuation building to be used in case of an emergency in which we would need to leave the school. We are in the final stages of working through all the logistics to make this happen. When all necessary paperwork is in place, we will plan an emergency evacuation drill. This will occur on a school day, toward the end of the school day and parents will be notified well in advance to make necessary arrangements and be prepared to pick up their children from the emergency evacuation location or make other arrangements.
The committee also worked on putting together emergency backpacks for each classroom teacher and staff member at school. These backpacks are red and have a white cross on them with the school name. These backpacks each have basic first aide kits (donated by Central Valley Hospital) and water (donated by Mt Nebo Market). Teachers will put student information (emergency forms) in these backpacks as well as any other items he/she finds necessary in case of an emergency at the school. The backpacks will go with the class (to specialists, assemblies, fieldtrips, etc) so no matter where the class is at the time of a real emergency the teacher has it with him/her and is ready to meet the needs of the children and evacuate the building immediately if needed, with all needed stuent information.
We will continue working on disaster preparedness issues this year as well as field any safety concerns brought to our attention. Our goal is to be prepared to practice an evacuation by the end of September. More information will be sent home concerning our emergency protocols as well as what parents should expect and do during each situation.

Hope Bearnson is our Play of the Week
Congratulations to Hope Bearnson who is this week's Play of the Week. She is a 6th grader in Mrs. Smalley's class. After finding $5 in the bathroom she asked classmates if they had lost it, then turned it into the office. She is also friendly to EVERYONE in her class. Keep up the good work!
I heard of several other students who were very helpful in class by helping other students after their own work was completed. Good work EAGLES! We're on our way to success.
