This past year safety committee has been working on securing an evacuation building to be used in case of an emergency in which we would need to leave the school. We are in the final stages of working through all the logistics to make this happen. When all necessary paperwork is in place, we will plan an emergency evacuation drill. This will occur on a school day, toward the end of the school day and parents will be notified well in advance to make necessary arrangements and be prepared to pick up their children from the emergency evacuation location or make other arrangements.
The committee also worked on putting together emergency backpacks for each classroom teacher and staff member at school. These backpacks are red and have a white cross on them with the school name. These backpacks each have basic first aide kits (donated by Central Valley Hospital) and water (donated by Mt Nebo Market). Teachers will put student information (emergency forms) in these backpacks as well as any other items he/she finds necessary in case of an emergency at the school. The backpacks will go with the class (to specialists, assemblies, fieldtrips, etc) so no matter where the class is at the time of a real emergency the teacher has it with him/her and is ready to meet the needs of the children and evacuate the building immediately if needed, with all needed stuent information.
We will continue working on disaster preparedness issues this year as well as field any safety concerns brought to our attention. Our goal is to be prepared to practice an evacuation by the end of September. More information will be sent home concerning our emergency protocols as well as what parents should expect and do during each situation.
